Nonprofits, schools, religious organizations, and charities that are recognized as being tax-exempt by the IRS are welcome to apply for DonationMatch nonprofit accounts. This includes all organizations that are eligible as defined by IRS Publication 78, a list of organizations eligible to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions.
There is no cost to register and post fundraising events on DonationMatch. DonationMatch is currently free of charge to use in every capacity until our site is upgraded in March, 2012, at which point we will be supported by the transaction fees we collect with each confirmed "match." We define a match as the approval of a request OR the acceptance of an offer, so there is no cost unless there is a positive result. This fee is only paid by whoever makes the first move, which is the nonprofit making requests or company making offers. No fee is charged to a nonprofit accepting an offer or a company approving a request.
Our standard transaction fee will be $5, which is relatively low compared to other companies who charge a down payment and/or % rates for items, since the median value of items on DonationMatch is approximately $150-200. When factoring in printing and payroll costs, we've been told we are also cost-effective for nonprofit staff and volunteer time. All members will also have opportunities to earn waived transaction fees by referring nonprofits and businesses, and through promotions we communicate through social media and emails, so it pays to keep in touch!
The online process to set up an account is simple. Start here by choosing a username, clicking the link on the new account email you receive, and submitting the completed nonprofit information form. You may continue with creating an event. Before your events are visible to donors (ACTIVE), however, you’ll have to be verified. We’ll contact you by email once that has occurred.
A development director or staff member with the ability to authorize other users and/or incur expenses on your nonprofit’s behalf should set up an organization's first (master) account. Once the master account is approved, it will be able to invite authorized users that can be added/deleted by the master account holder.
Only one DonationMatch master account per unique tax ID is allowed. Additional users under the same tax ID will need to be authorized by the user of the first (master) account.
For your protection, DonationMatch performs our own due diligence to verify all nonprofits and applicants with available IRS records and systems like Guidestar’s Charity Check, the American Institute of Philanthropy, the Better Business Bureau’s Charity Seal Program and Wise Giving Alliance, and Charity Navigator. It can take a day or longer for us to activate your account, or longer if messages left with administrators or published contacts are not returned.
You can assist us by making sure that:
• Applicants are publicly known to be involved with the organization
• Consistent contact information is on file with all sources
• Your non-profit maintains tax-exempt status with the IRS
• Your non-profit has good ratings and reviews online and actively monitors and updates its website and social media
• Decision makers and employees of your nonprofit are prepared to respond to any fact-checking inquiries from DonationMatch via email and phone
DonationMatch reserves the right to suspend or remove accounts belonging to nonprofits or authorized users suspected to be fraudulent as well as those that lose their tax-exempt status or violate our site's Terms and Conditions of Use.
No. We do not sell our member information, so your contact information remains with us for DonationMatch purposes only and is never sold or traded.
Yes! If someone else fundraises on your behalf, you may set up a DonationMatch nonprofit account and authorize them to request in-kind donations for your benefit.
Referring others is as easy as sending them an email through our referral program, which will provide them your organization's unique referral code. Simply log in to your account, find "My Charity Profile," and click on the "Refer..." tab. You can also copy and paste the given link and/or sample text to send in your own newsletters or emails. Your referrals will always have the chance to try us free, and you'll be introducing them to a valuable, timesaving tool.
